The Lavender Country and Folk Dancers (LCFD), started in 1988, is an umbrella organization that sponsors, supports, and promotes a nation-wide network of local gender-free community dances and dance camps. (“Gender-free" is also referred to as "gender-neutral," "gender-role-free," or "role-optional.") Our member groups are mostly contra and English country dances, but we also encompass several other dance traditions. While our focus is LGBTQ communities, we welcome everyone to our dances and camps. We've been working with filmmaker Nate Daniel on a full-length documentary about our dance community, which is expected to be released in 2017. Here’s a short promotional video, which shares a bit of the story of how the joy of music and dance has brought us all together. The video is also a preview of the full-length documentary.
