LCFD NewsThe Jamaican Plain (Boston) Men’s Group is holding a contra dance on Friday, March 7, from 8 to 10:30. It will be at the First U-U Church just as the regular dance series. Live music will be provided by Debbie Knight and Dave Titus. Chris Ricciotti will call contras. Dancers from the regular JP dance series are encouraged to attend to have fun and guide the many first time dancers to an enjoyable contra dance experience.

The Oakland/San Francisco queer contra organizers put together a sort of pilot dance in Santa Cruz on January 12 to see what kind of response queer contra would get down there and to possibly drum up interest in dance camp, which will be held just outside Santa Cruz. To our amazement, over eighty people showed up, most of them young and extremely exuberant. Karen Fontana called a very appropriate line-up of relatively simple dances, and the Crabapples, energized by the whooping and hollering, cranked out hot music. Many people voiced interest in attending dance camp, and several responded to our call for local organizers to get a monthly series going in Santa Cruz. It really seemed as if the Santa Cruz queer community was starving for an event like ours.
